The Stealing of Emily Submitted to 20 Leading UK Theatres

Today marks a major step in the journey of The Stealing of Emily, my original musical rooted in personal truth and systemic critique. The full submission pack has now been sent to 20 of the UK’s most influential theatres, including the National Theatre, Royal Court, and The Lowry.

This work — born from the abduction of my daughter through the family court system — weaves grief, love, state power, and memory into 18 scenes of poetic narrative and original music. At its heart sits a crocheted Bagpuss cat, quietly asking the question: Where is Emily?

Each submission included:

  • A one-page synopsis
  • Full script (industry-standard)
  • Complete libretto with lyrics
  • Full score (PDF format)
  • Demo recordings via YouTube and MuseScore
  • Author’s statement

These 20 submissions represent more than outreach — they are a stand against silence.

    Hi Martin,  I am sorry I have been quiet.  I think of your tragic loss often and pray you and your family have a time of happiness and peace. I just wanted to let you know, I pass everything on to as many people as I can. I think you are an incredible human being . I know you would prefer not to be on this journey,  your talents should be used in happier circumstances.
